This is going to be tremendously short. First, let me say that I most definitely do not enjoy writing my TToT posts on Sunday evenings. If I’m here on a Sunday evening with fingers to keys, it means either A) I had a hard time figuring out what to put on my list, B) I…Continue Reading “In Which I Tell You I’m About to Disappear – #10Thankful”
I can’t believe it’s the weekend again already.
I also can’t believe that Halloween and Thanksgiving have come and gone, that autumn is now two-thirds past, and we’re heading rapidly toward Hanukkah next weekend and Christmas not far behind.
Time moves so fast… What is it that Ferris Bueller said? “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” I definitely don’t want that to happen. I want to be aware of the life I’m living.
And so it is good practice, especially in times when life is busy and stressful, to just…be. We need time to stop and look around, to find the quiet moments for which to be thankful, the moments that give our life meaning.
So let’s talk turkey…Continue Reading "TToT – We’re Here Already?"
I skipped the TToT link-up last weekend.
I never do that.
It wasn’t for lack of intent or even lack of things for which to be thankful. It was simply the result of circumstance. So this week I have plenty to add. Mostly I think I’ve found many ways to acknowledge small bits of progress (remember that word – my long lost One Word for the year?) and to keep the positive efforts flowing.
Let’s start with the beauty of autumn. I love this season most of all and even if the color changes aren’t the most spectacular around here this year, I still love everything about this particular season and its changes. The empty corn fields across the road from us struck me as particularly interesting this year…there’s a post coming, I think.Continue Reading "TToT – A Bit of Progress"
Fall has always been a time of transition and fresh starts for me.
This year is no different. The change of seasons itself is a beautiful time of change – for me, the move from hot and humid to cool and comfortable is glorious. And I love the color changes, too. Although the fresh, bright greens of summer are beautiful in their own right, there is something special about the first pops of autumn color. And I’m looking forward to seeing more in the coming weeks.
And even though I am no longer teaching, the start of a new school year always feel like a New Year’s of sorts – a time to get back into a routine, start something new, get a fresh perspective. Clean book covers, new school shoes, empty notebooks and freshly-sharpened pencils get me every time, even if they aren’t mine.Continue Reading "TToT – Transitions and Getting Back on Track"
Unbelievably, here we are at the end of summer.
School begins on Monday for Kidzilla, so this is our last weekend of summer freedom. But I still can’t pull my brain away from the thought that summer lasts until Labor Day and this whole back-to-school before Labor Day thing is nonsense.
So for the next week, we’ll be sort of hovering in the interim between back-to-school routine and what should be the final days of summer. Of course, it’s all moot since summer doesn’t end by the calendar until late September. I guess the answer to the question of when summer ends is dependent upon the person you ask.
While I’m a bit sad to see summer end, I’m also glad we’ll be getting back to a more structured routine with the start of school. I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of each season, but seasons must and do change. I’m ready, I think.
Regardless of what the school calendar says, it’s still the weekend and that means it’s time to stop for a few moments and be thankful for the good in life…Continue Reading "TToT – The Interim"
There’s something special about summertime…
The daylight lasts longer… Time seems to move a bit slower… Even the busy days feel a bit less structured and demanding. There is time to breathe, to inhale deeply, and to live deliberately…
We are one week into our official summer break and have filled it with wonderful moments and many things for which I am thankful. The first is, simply, that it is officially summer break for Zilla, the Hub has switched to his summer work schedule, and we are finding our summer groove.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat.
Last weekend I struggled to find time to write my TToT in between all the things. And no, of course I didn’t write it before things got busy. That would have been much too logical. I finally ended up slipping in at the end of the weekend. This weekend, I find myself once again on the go. But I’ve figured out a few things. This week, I am coming to you from my trusty laptop at the back of the auditorium where Zilla is attending a Girl Scout workshop.
Go me.Continue Reading "TToT – Another Busy Weekend"
Until this afternoon, I have only been home to sleep. We are on the go!
If I’m getting this TToT in at all, it has to be right now while we’re home for a few hours in between all the things. Here we go…Continue Reading "TToT – Between All the Things"
Well, I think we may finally be up and running smoothly for the year.
Even with a snow day Monday and Kidzilla home not feeling well Tuesday, the regular routine seems to be in place once again. And maybe even with some improvements in the works – who knows?
I’m excited to get this list finished and linked, so that’s all the creative intro you get from me this week. Let’s get going…Continue Reading "TToT – Running Smoothly"
My disappearance this week was not intentional.
In fact, I had all sorts of great ideas planned for this space – and most were actually in a semi-written state. But somehow the first week back on routine went a little awry and I ended up with a cold to boot. Two of the five school days were delayed starts due to the cold/snow/ice here and two evening events were cancelled or rescheduled for the same reasons. So our week back on routine was anything but.
I got pretty cranky about the whole thing. I didn’t feel well. I only exercised one day – the Cats used the treadmill more than I did. Things that were scheduled did not go as planned. Chores were not done, projects were not started, posts were not written…my list of things that irritated me grew far longer than any list of thankfuls. All of a sudden it’s Friday and nearly time for the TToT so I figured I’d better adjust my attitude and find the positives in my list of irritations.
