Friday Favorites on Thursday Night

January 16, 2014 Off By Lisa

Call me a rebel.

I realized I haven’t done a Five Friday Favorites in about forever, so I’m tossing one up right now. On Thursday.

No fuss, no ado, just five down and dirty favorites of the moment as they fall out of my head. Right. Now. Here they are.

Hot drinks. Usually coffee, but tea takes a close second when I have to cut off the caffeine supply. Better than a hot drink? One that someone else made for me. Thank you to Dunkin Donuts and to the Fab Hub for always coming through in this department. And a special honorable mention goes to the BFF for finding a coffee cup (not entirely dirty), putting coffee in it and delivering it to my desk on the morning my life exploded and I forgot my coffee at home. See that cute little green teapot down there? That’s my first-ever and still-favorite teapot for making tea.

Snuggles from Kidzilla. Early weekend mornings she shows up with her head next to mine on the pillow for a cuddle. Weekday afternoons, she is generally quite willing to have a few quiet moments when we both get home from school before we go about whatever business we have for the evening. And she’s always good for a bedtime snuggle while we read books and say prayers and sing lullabies. Yup, she still asks for those. And I’m not about to stop her. And besides being a great snuggler, Zilla always  knows exactly when you need a hug or a smile or a tiny hand on your cheek.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. And Big Cups. (Have you had these? Twice the peanut butter. Please.)  And Reese’s hearts. And Reese’s eggs. I am terrible at picking favorites of anything, but when it comes to candy, Reese’s peanut butter whatever shape they’re making this month are too easy. Oh, and when they did the dark chocolate special edition a few years ago for a Batman movie promotion or something? Even better. Now if I could get a dark chocolate Big Cup, I’d be really set.

My buckwheat pillow or whatever the heck it is. I have rheumatoid arthritis and sometimes that means that no amount of heat is enough for cold, aching joints unless you pop one of these buckwheat-filled smushy pillow things on your feet and ankles. And when my hands hurt, the one pillow is so smushy that I can sort of put my whole hand in the little beads and kind of let it wrap around my aches and pains. Awesome. As an added bonus, they make great bed warmers, too. Here, the Fab Hub models the heart-shaped pillow that he’s about to warm up for me because he loves me.

Rotten Cats. Specifically, my three Rotten Boys. They are without a doubt the three most annoying creatures on the planet. Some of them poop in my sink and on my bathroom carpet when they’re mad about something. Some of them yerf up hairballs on the carpet so you step in them when you least expect it. Some of them cat brawl in the middle of the night making sounds that sound as if they came straight from hell and leaving kitten-sized balls of fur behind. Some of them prance around on the kitchen table, daring me to shoo them off. Some of them nap there or sit among the Christmas decorations (no, I haven’t put them away yet) and pretend to be invisible. But some of them also snuggle up to my feet at night and purr and some of them know just when their people need a friend and some Rotten Cat kitty love. So they’re pretty OK. And if nothing else, they are wildly entertaining blog fodder. If you haven’t met the Rotten Cats yet, click on that link up there at the top of the paragraph and read all about them!
