Science with Kidzilla – Planets Edition

Before leaving work today, I called Fab Hub and Kidzilla to let them know I was on my way home. Kidzilla got on the phone…

“Uranus, Uranus, Uranus…”

Please, God, let my daughter be talking about a planet and not someone’s butt. Amen.

“Mamma, guess what we learned about in school today?”

Please, God, let it be planets. Amen.

Me: What did you learn about today, Zilla?

Z: Space!

Whew!

Me: So, what did you learn?

Z: We learned about planets. Mars is a planet. Uranus is a planet.

Me: Yes, Mars and Uranus are both planets.

The twelve year old boy who lives in my brain needs to stop laughing. Right. Now.

Z: Jupiter is a planet.

Me: Yes.

Fab Hub: Tell Mom all of the planets.

Z: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus.

Me: Zilla, that’s awesome! Hon, did you coach her?

Fab Hub: Nope, she learned that in school this morniing.

Me: Wow, Zilla! I am so proud of you!

Holy crap. I’m forty-two years old…I don’t know the order of the planets. But my Kid does.

Fab Hub: Zilla, tell Mom what planet was demoted.

Z: Pluto. Pluto used to be a planet, but now it’s just a huuuuuge aaaass…..

Could this conversation be any funnier?

Z: …..teeeerooooid!

Me: That’s true. Poor Pluto.

Pluto will always be a planet to me. I mean, come on…it was my favorite planet when I was a kid and now they want to take that away from me? Nope. It’s still a planet.

I love funny kids conversations when they don’t realize what is so funny.

There’s got to be a mnemonic for the order of the planets out there.

Never forgot: King Philip Comes Over for Girlie Shows (kingdom, phylum, class, order, genus, species). And I cannot NOT laugh every time I hear “Uranus.” I am a child.
