“You’ve changed,” she said, her tone a mix of genuine surprise and certain confidence.

The woman across from her smiled, confirming the sentiment.

“The more time I spent with the person you were becoming, the more toxic this relationship became. Your words carved into my heart, leaving it bloody, raw, and a little less of itself than it should be. I stopped liking you and couldn’t allow you to destroy me, so I had to stop seeing you; but we can move forward from here.”

She smiled, satisfied and at peace, blew a kiss to her reflection, and headed out to greet the day.
