TToT – The Dance of the SGV

February 6, 2015 Off By Lisa

I need to go lie down. Seriously.

I was on my way out the door to Zilla’s school to volunteer in the library today and all of a sudden…sick. Blah. Not the best way to start off a list of thankfuls, is it?

But let’s go with that for a second. I needed to let the librarian know I was about to bail out on her at the last minute and e-mail wasn’t the way to go. I called and got the secretary in Zilla’s building (let’s call her Fran) in person, not a voice mail. Thankful. Fran said she would deliver the message right away. Thankful. And when I did get in touch with the librarian via e-mail later, she assured me that the library had plenty of parent helpers and not to worry. I am thankful that I did not cause a major disruption by bailing at the last minute.

But I have to give another nod to Fran for going a bit out of her way, too. I volunteer during a couple of first grade class periods, one of which is Zilla’s, of course. I absolutely did not want my girl to walk into the library expecting to see me, find that I wasn’t there and wonder why.

I asked Fran if there was a way she could get a message to the classroom teacher to tell Zilla what happened. She said the class was actually walking down the hall and did I want to speak to Zilla myself. Yes. But NO! Disrupt the flow of Zilla’s day? Never a good idea. That kid needs her focus and her routine. I asked Fran to just make sure that somehow Zilla got word by the time she had library period. After school, Zilla told me that Fran delivered the message to her personally when she arrived in the library. Zilla said she was worried, but felt better when Fran explained it. She could have just called the classroom, but she didn’t. She went in person and put my child at ease. Thankful thankful thankful.

I am not thankful that my stomach feels blah. But I’m quite thankful that the Hub is on dinner duty and I don’t need to worry about anything for the evening. He’s a good one. I am thankful that Zilla is understanding and has been quiet and helpful this afternoon. She’s a good one, too.

I am thankful for all the great connections and conversations that have come through this blog and the groups of people I’ve encountered the last couple of weeks. Truly. I am thankful for friendships of all kinds, both old and new.

I’m thankful for a lot of other stuff…good productivity in the writing world and positive feedback on a lot of it, new ideas, helpful information in other areas of life, a cozy sweatshirt, cats who know I feel lousy and snuggle up to keep me warm, hugs from Kidzilla.

Loads. Trust me.

But with that, I must take my leave. I really don’t even think I can dance for the SGV, given the uncertain state of my stomach. They’ve generously offered to dance for me and offer a bye week. The Rotten Cats will hold down the fort.

Too Many Cats

I will be around to read and comment when I’m not huddled under the covers feeling like ick.
