So, I’ve been on hiatus for the last several days.

Apparently, life minus one finger is relatively complicated. Typing proved to be more trouble (read: pain) than it was worth.  Everyday tasks like showering and chopping vegetables were awkward and unwieldy at best.

I was very excited about having my stitches removed today…until I actually sat in the chair and the Doctor busted out these insanely long tools to do the deed.

Not cool.

The process was relatively simple.  I did not really enjoy the little bit of tugging and pinching because I am, it turns out, the biggest baby on the planet when it comes to this stuff.  Who knew?

Doctor guy tells me the wound looks good, but my days as a hand model are apparently over.  I think it’s horrifying.  The scar is, well…it’s pretty ugly as far as scars go.  I’m not yet at the stage where I think it looks cool.

It doesn’t.

I will spare you the visual evidence.

So, the stitches are off and typing is a bit less cumbersome.  I still have some swelling and stiffness.  Doctor says the swelling should go down as I regain mobility and get the blood flowing.  I’m pretty nervous about that part, though.  It is definitely stiff and difficult to bend normally and I am absolutely terrified that if I bend the finger too much, I am going to rip the gash wide open again.

I suspect that little irrational fear will fade after a while.

In the meantime, I have had lots of time to think and mentally prep a few things to post here.  So stay tuned!

Thanks to all who sent well wishes to me and Frankenfinger!
