#10Thankful – Things of Significance

May 16, 2016 Off By Lisa

I sense that great things are about to happen.

No, really. I wish I could explain why, but I can’t. I just know that things are somehow falling into place as they should.

I’m late again this week – very late – but that’s OK because once again we have been out living. I can’t think of a better way to fuel my writing than by living. How about you? I’d love to give you a fabulously written intro here, but it’s quite late and the link-up is going to close soon, so I’m opting for expediency.

I’d also love to tell you I grabbed a fabulous photo somewhere this week, but I didn’t, so maybe you’ll allow me to share this one – pulled it from some pics from our visits to our CSA farm last summer and added it as a new header. After the rainy and chilly weather here over the last couple of weeks, I’m so looking forward to more days like this!

So let’s get down to thankful…

Early this week, I saw my rheumatologist for a routine checkup and everything looks great. I feel good, we talked about decreasing one of my meds over the next few months, and she noticed my recent weight loss.

I saw my new allergist for the first time this week and it seems perhaps my allergies aren’t quite as bad as I have believed for the last few years. Difficult to explain. But the end result is that I’m off ALL of the allergy meds I’ve been taking for several years and I don’t feel awful. A bit of congestion and such, but not a big deal. Getting off the allergy meds has been a goal of mine, so I’m delighted.

I’m glad that I jumped into the Graviteering effort with Clark and the rest of the gang. My weight loss has been slow for sure, but so far I’ve managed to hit two new “stable weights” along the way and am hopeful that I’ll continue. Plus, we have t-shirts, so that’s cool.

This week, we had a visitor on our back porch for a couple of days. Check out this luna moth. Kind of ugly, kind of beautiful all at the same time. Definitely very large – his wingspan was easily between four and five inches. I’ve never seen one before, but I’ve learned a bit about them. Seems it’s rare to see one and they are said to be harbingers of positive change or good fortune. This one hung around on our porch door for two days, then disappeared. Now, anything with more legs than a dog is definitely not welcome in my general vicinity, but in the end I think I’m kind of glad this guy showed up.

But wait, there’s more! This afternoon the Hub and Zilla and I went to see The Jungle Book (awesome) and then grabbed dinner. When we came out, we were fortunate to see the most beautiful rainbow. It was a “full” rainbow – you know, the ones where you can see the entire arc from end to end. Not only was it a full rainbow, but also – at least for a minute or two – a double rainbow. And it is without question the biggest and most vibrant rainbow I have ever seen (even better than this one a couple of years ago). We drove around a bit literally chasing rainbows; the Hub took video and grabbed a bunch of photos which, of course, will never do it justice. This was beautiful to see and I love that the three of us got to see it together. We got to talking about how this week we had the luna moth visit and now the amazing rainbow. I asked Zilla what the rainbow means and she instantly replied, “God’s promise not to destroy the world again.” (Is this kid not amazing?) I said, yes, of course, but what else? Lucky, of course! Meanwhile, I kind of like the whole world not getting destroyed part a lot, you know? There’s so much negativity out there and I love the positive and hopeful sign in the rainbow.

Anyway, I can’t help but see these events as significant somehow. Are great things in store for us? Are we just on the right path at the moment? Are my Grandparents hanging around looking out for us? No idea. But I am a firm believer that when God has a message for you, He makes it clear.

I am thankful for heat that right now is warming up this very chilly house. Dropping into the 30s tonight with a frost warning – in mid-May??? I tried to resist, but it’s just too cold for my joints in here. I am also very happy to enjoy a hot cup of tea and a snuggly shawl (yes, a shawl) around my shoulders to cut the chill in my office while I write this.

Oh, and speaking of that, I am coming to you tonight from my brand new computer, built specifically for me by the Fab Hub. He is awesome. I’ve had my laptop for several years and it’s been threatening to die lately, so he decided that it was high time to replace. In the end I think (if I understood his explanations correctly) we both ended up with significant upgrades on our two machines for far less than the cost of same retail. How handy is it to have an in-house computer guy? I admit I resisted the upgrade for several reasons but I’m glad he did it.

Zilla is having a bit of a tough time getting through the last half of the fourth quarter of the school year – she’s just so ready for second grade to be over, I think. But she’s hanging in there and working hard. The Hub and I each got to spend some special time alone with her this weekend and we’ve spent a bunch of time just doing things as a family. The Hub and I have been able to connect and spent time as just the two of us this week, something that too often gets pushed down on the priority list behind all the other things that couples have to think about. We’ve had some good talks, too, which only help strengthen our relationship.

Life is good.

Your turn: What are you thankful for this week? I’m far too late to the party for you to link ’em through me, but you can certainly tell us in the comments!
